I have a 2004 Civic and the a/c smells disgusting...guessing the evaporator needs to be cleaned. Is this something I can do myself, or do I need to take it in for service? Approximate cost? The performance of the a/c is actually pretty good otherwise.
How do you clean the a/c evaporator in a car?
1st check to see if your model has an A/C air filter and change that. After which you may want to clean the ducts. This you can yourself, gently pry open the vents and using a damp cloth wipe as far as you can reach (you may want to use a piece of wire to push the cloth)
Some cars have a clip to open the covering near to the evap. if you can just vaccum it.
Reply:the smell is mold growing so clean with a weak bleach solution
