Can I get hepatis c from my partner by having unprotected sex?

I just learned that my new partner has hep c. I was wondering is it possible for me to get it by having unprotected sex with him.

Can I get hepatis c from my partner by having unprotected sex?
First, Hep C is not an STD. It is a blood born disease. The only way you will get it through unprotected sex is if blood is involved. It's NOT passed from bodily fluids i.e. semen, saliva, sweat, etc. Just blood. So if there is no blood present, you have nothing to worry about. But, it is always smart to use a condom with a person, whether they have Hepatitis C or not.

EDIT: To prove how hard it is to receive Hep C through sexual contact, I would like to state: My mom contracted Hep C from a blood transfusion in the late 1960's. She has been married to my dad for 35 years and he has never contracted it. I have had Hep C for 19 years. I got it from my mom when I was born. I have been with my husband since I was a freshman in high school. That was over 5 years ago. (We will be married 2 years on the 21st.) He is Hep C free as well. Both my dad and my husband have been tested numerous times and they are both free of the virus.
Reply:Yes you can.
Reply:Absolutely, although it is not easy to contract. Hepatitis C is a blood borne pathogen. Vaginal intercourse is not a primary method of transmission. Anal sex and IV drug use is way more common. Don't fool yourselft though...condomns offer fantastic protection from Hep C.
Reply:yes
Reply:Yes. Although Hepatitis C is considered a bloodborne pathogen, the vagina is a mucous membrane and therefore may absorb even miniscule amounts of blood easily.

Hepatitis C may be present in an amount of blood too microscopic to be viewed with the naked eye (i.e., nonintact skin on your partner's penis).

According to the CDC, the role of sexual activity in transmitting Hepatitis C is controversial (in other words, they don't really know). They say "Hepatitis C is not efficiently transmitted sexually". http://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2006/he...

What do I say? Use condoms.
Reply:Uhh, Yea!
