My mother passed away because of Hep C, a few months a go. Now my dad is showing the symptoms of Hep C. He does not want to meet with a dother coz he know he doesn' have money to get treatments. I am in the state trying to find some cash for his treatment, he is in my home country. I feel helpless. Please help me. God bless you.

So sorry about your mother. Recently pegylated interferon has been approved to treat Hepatitis B, as well as Hepatitis C. This combinaton wil treat both forms of hepatitis . If your dad has a gastroenterologist who will prescribe pegylated interferon %26amp; ribavirin, he can apply to the pharmaceutical company's patient assistance program. Both companies that manufacture the drugs (Roche and Schering-Plough) have patient assistance programs. You will need to call them to pre-qualify, then they will send you a packet of information to fill out. You may need to supply income information or a copy of last year's income taxes. Almost everyone qualifies for the program if you have no insurance. They even set up delivery to your home. Since your dad is in another country, you will have to check if the medication or the patient assistance program is available over there. Check out the links below for more info. By the way, I did the treatment 7 years ago for HCV and have been clear ever since. Best wishes.

Reply:Hep C is treated with a form of chemo known as pegylated interfuron/ribaviron. It usually consists of injections and pills. My mother had the treatment and has been clear of Hep C for 8 years now. She had a blood transfusion in the 1960's and contracted the virus from that. I got it from her when I was born and have been on the treatment twice, with no success. I would suggest you and your father going to the local department of public aid office and trying to get medical assistance from there. Good luck and I wish you the best.
Reply:I know that chemo is given to those with hep c, but too my knowledge there is no cure.

Try calling the CDC (center for disease control) it should be in the front of your phone book, tell them the situation and see if they have some options for him. I will keep you guys in our prayers...... God Bless you and your family
