How long do you have to stay at the hospital after giving birth or having a c-section?

After you give birth or have a c-section, how long do they make you stay in the hospital? Do you have to stay a night to be watched and make sure you are alright, or can you leave same day? How about the baby? Personal experiences are welcomed too!

How long do you have to stay at the hospital after giving birth or having a c-section?
I know that after a natural birth you can go home the next day, baby too!!

With a c-section you are to stay for three to five days! days or your first bowle movement!!

In my case I got depressed at the Hospitial after my emergency C-section.. My daughter was a 34 weeker that weighed 5 pounds and 14 ounces. So the doctor let me go home on day two!! I was so glad!! My daughter came home the same day as me!!

It is all up to you and the baby!! Good Luck!!
Reply:DEPENDS ON THE HOSPITAL AND STATE. IN PA YOU MUST STAY ATLEAST 48 HOURS AFTER A VAGINAL BIRTH 4 DAYS FOR C SECTION. THEY HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU AND THE BABY ARE ALRIGHT TO GO HOME. SOMETIMES YOU ARE ALRIGHT TO GO HOME BUT THE BABY IS NOT. I WAS SICK OF BEING IN THE HOSPITAL FOR ONLY TWO DAYS. COULDN'T WAIT TO GET HOME. SO IT JUST DEPENDS ON YOUR SITUATION.

GOOD LUCK!
Reply:Well, if you have a normal birth you only stay over night and next day(basically two days.). if you have a C-section you stay in for three days. I stay only two days cause I had normal deliver. good luck.
Reply:I was allowed to go home after 24 hours with both of mine, but I also had to be able to demostrate that I could get up and walk, and also be able to go to the bathroom. My babies went home as well.
Reply:I had my daughter on a Monday night and was out on Wednesday before 11 am.
Reply:i had a c-section on sat %26amp; came home on wed. it would have been tuesday but i was running a fever %26amp; they made me stay an extra night
Reply:I was stuck for 4 days after my c-section. I was ready to sneak out I was so freakin sick of that damn place.
Reply:Having a natural birth they have to keep you for at least 24 hours just to be sure u an the baby is fine but u can be sent home b4 the baby i think c section is like 2-4days,but it depends on the hospital like if u have the baby like around 12 am they will keep u till that evening or somthin if u an the baby r doin fine the baby can go home w/ u as long as it is 6ilbs or more and it is breathing by itself and has the right color and i believe they even send it home if it doesnt eat good luck i hope it goes well:) i may be doing that 2 not to far away
Reply:I had a c-section Tuesday at 6:21 pm, I was out of the hospital on Friday morning at about 8:00 am. I think if you have a vaginal birth you can leave the next day or even sooner sometimes.
Reply:just depends on u i was in there 5 days with both i had csections my daughters were discharged before me but they stayed till i could leave
Reply:This is entirely dependant on A) the insurance company and B) the hospital.

Depending on where you live, and how much money you have, you can stay two weeks, if you pay cash. But Usually, the insurance companies pay for 3-5 days, depending on complications.
Reply:you cant leave the same day coz you wont be able to feel your legs!

i had one and left 3 days after... they usually try to incourage you to stay 5 but i was keen to get up on my feet.

its really sore the 1st few days so be careful... stay in there as long a to think you need to.

good luck!!!
Reply:In PA, you are requied to stay for 24 hours following a vaginal birth, not sure about c-section. There are many Mennonite women in the community where my hospital sits, and they are self-pay on their bills, they have the baby, stay the minimum and scoot straight home.
Reply:I went in Monday morning at 6 a.m. and didn't come out until Friday at 12 p.m. My son was born by c-section on Tuesday evening.

3 days is normal for a c-section. Depending on your insurance 2 days is normal for vaginal.
Reply:Here it's 3-5 for natural delivery and 5-7 for c-section. Thats just standard however you can discharge yourself at any time.

Friend had her baby boy on Saturday morning 4am she was home Saturday afternoon 2pm.

Generally they have you stay a few days to make sure you and baby are ok. During that time 36hrs after birth they usually do the heel prick test on the baby. If you leave before done you then have to get around to getting to the doctor or child health nurse to have done.

My girls were born 2months premature due to twin to twin transfusion syndrome they stayed in the ICU %26amp; SCN for all up 5 1/2 weeks. I went home after 5days and had to bus it (because couldn't drive straight away due to c-section) to the hospital everyday to be with them and express as they were on tube feeds for the first 3 1/2wks of life. They still came home before their "Due Date" and are now thriving 6yr olds
Reply:As long as the baby is healthy and you are ok you should be able to go home within a week usually no more than 48 hours. It does depend on the insurance and the hospital. I hd a c-section a nd was released in about 4 days, that's only because I had a few"issues". My son went home as soon as he was well. He was a premie and had some probs, BUT now he is the biggest in his class! AND SMART! GO PREMIES!
Reply:I really think it mainly depends on the hospital and the new mom. My friend recently had a c-section. She went in on a tuesday early morning @ around 2 am and they let her leave that thursday @ around noon. But she was up and walking around just a day after so that may have influenced there decision. SO she basically stayed for two days.
Reply:I had a C-section in hospital and was back home in less than 24 hours (no staples). If u r gonna have a c-section (i had 2) just prepare your mind. i think that has alot to do with it. my first one i spent 1 month in hospital (due to infection in the incision). but my second experience was absolutely great.
Reply:My hospital its 3 day stay for natural birth, 6 day stay for c-sections.
