What happens if you overdose on Vitamin C?

If you take more than the maximum daily amount of Vitamin C, about 2,000mg, what are the likely results? I have a cold, so I took 20,000 mg or more of Vitamin C chewables. Will overdosing on Vitamin C for a day or two, but not on a regular basis, clear it up faster? Alternatively, will it do nothing or will it have a negative physical effect?

I know that Vitamin C is water soluble, so too much is excreted by the body. And if you take a lot on a regular basis, it may lower your immunity. But if you take most of the bottle for a day or two, can it be beneficial to clearing up a cold?

What happens if you overdose on Vitamin C?
It is extremely difficult to OD on vitamin C because it is water soluble. You could potentially induce renal failure with enough of it, and possibly damage the liver. But you would really have to work at it.

OD'ing on vitamin C will not help you get over a cold faster. The only thing that seems to speed up cold recovery is some of the zinc nasal sprays. However, all the extra vitamin C will do is give your kidneys a workout that they do not need.
Reply:It is excreted and you have expensive urine.
Reply:Dont worry, nothing shall happen if you take too much Vitamin C. Your body will just disgard it in your urine.
Reply:you cant

but you can od on A D and K
Reply:Your body can only absorb 100% of what it needs. Any more is just flushed out.

You're just wasting your money.

Instead, drink plenty of water and chicken broth (the sodium in the broth keeps you from dehydrating) and rest.
