Can a window A/C unit work if it is set on a table instead of being in a window?

Well, I just moved into a new house and my A/C Unit will not fit into the window without some MAJOR work. Someone told me that you can place them in a closed room on a table and that they will still work the same, but instead they just keep recycling the air.

Does this really work? and is it safe?

Can a window A/C unit work if it is set on a table instead of being in a window?
You could set it on a table, but you still need to vent the warm air (from the condenser) to the outside via a flexible duct or something, otherwise, the warm air that comes out of the unit will compete with the cool air that comes out of the front. You will still be circulating the same air in the room; only the heat will be vented outside. I hope this helps.
Reply:You would also need some kind of drain since air conditioning pulls water out of the air. Report It

Reply:Not at all. An air-conditioner is a heat exchanger. the heat has to go outside so the cool can be inside. No not on a table inside the hous.
Reply:Nobody mentioned that air conditioners also DRIP water. Usually the water drips outside, if the air conditioner is in a window.

I wouldn't put it inside on a table, you might as well have a heater running in the house.

Can't you buy a smaller unit for the window?
Reply:other answers are correct,a/c's transfer heat so heat must be discharged outside.go to wally world and get a 79.95 throwaway unit.it will last 3 to 5 years and then get another one.
