Do I save a lot of money by keeping the A/C off in the house?

It gets pretty hot but I usually don't turn on the A/C unit built in the wall for the apartment. For 4 roommates the electrical bill this way is around $25 per person. How much would it be approximately if I turned the A/C on often?

Do I save a lot of money by keeping the A/C off in the house?
Depends on the size...of the apartment and the A/C. About 2-4 dollars an hour on average but it costs more initially then less to keep it going once the temperature is down.
Reply:too much, plus you'd be ruining the environment. Just be naked, it's cheaper. :P
Reply:If its an 1 bedroom apartment, in peak season, maybe about $150 a month if you have 2 units, one in the bedroom of 5K BTU and one of 8K BTU in the living room.
Reply:more money than if u left it on
Reply:sort off... not much... but u save some amt of money... which is gd u c? if u left it on, i suppose one person has to pay abt 30 odd dollars...
Reply:It cost more to run it than to turn it off and on because the thermostat makes it run according to room temperature set the thermaostat at 70% and keep the windows closed and door shut this summer and make sure you change the filter ever 30 days during normal useage and keep it clean, the higher Btu the more it gives you cool air by footage and works less harder to keep the room set at a certain temperature, hope this helped you some, why make the A/c unit work harder to save you money by turning it on and off often, make your home comfortable and A/c work less harder by keeping it on to save you money in the long run %26gt; I keep mine on all the time and cost me less and keeps my house comfortable too,, you'll see the difference in the long run goog luck !!
Reply:if u keep the a/c turned on often then ur power bill may go through the roof. try fans or window units
Reply:What my dad does to save money is turn the A/C on only when it is really really hot. But he doesn't turn it up really high. If you turn the A/C on and have it on high, it will use a lot of hydro, but if you don't have it on high, that will use less hydro. Since hydro is so expensive, just turn on the A/C when absolutely necessary, in order to keep down on hydro costs.
Reply:try it and find out
