Is there easy transportion from Dulles International Airport to the monuments around D.C?

I'm flying to Paris next week, but we have a nine hour layover at Dulles International and my boyfriend %26amp; I were wondering if there's any sort of metro system to take you from the airport to the D.C area? We don't want to stay shacked up in the airport all day, but if we're better off just doing that than risking delays and stuff we will. I appreciate all the help!

Is there easy transportion from Dulles International Airport to the monuments around D.C?
There is a metro bus (I think it's the 5A or maybe the 3A I'm not sure) that goes straight from Dulles to the Rosslyn metro station. You can visit Arlington Cemetery (2 blocks away) while you're there and/or the "Bodies" exhibit that is one block from the metro.

From the metro station, you can also hop on the G-town connector or the 38B and go to Georgetown or you can get on the metro and check out the Museums (either blue or orange line of the metro). 9 hours should be plenty of time for you to at least see something but you'll be able to better manage your time when you get to the airport. Traffic really depends on the time of day that you're going to be traveling and the day of the week.
Reply:With traffic, the bus and metro will take at least 90 minutes each way for a total of 3 hours.

Add an hour or two for going back through security and customs and another hour to travel to the midfield concourses and back and there's 6 of the 9 hours spent on travel which gives 3 hours at the Smithsonian except that what happens if there's a fire in the Metro tunnel and buses are used - there's that 3 hour cushion....

There's the Udvar-Hazy Aerospace Museum which is much closer to Dulles and easily accessible with the Fairfax Connector buses.
Reply:No. There is no easy way to get from the Dulles area to downtown DC. The closest metro station (Vienna metro stop) might be about 30 minutes away if you can find transportation to get there. Your best bet is to call the airport and see if they can put you in touch with some sort of ground transportation that can help you get around.
Reply:I don't think you will have time...it takes at least one hour approx without traffic. check your airline schedule.
Reply:The metro does not service Dulles, but there are options.

Take the Washington Flyer Coach to Falls Church Metro Station ($16 round trip) (leaves every 30 minutes)

Take the Orange Line to Smithsonian Station. You will come up on the middle of the National Mall easy walking to Most monuments.
Reply:Honestly...no. Not yet, they ARE in the process of trying to get a metrorail line out there, but the best thing I can tell you is a cab, and that's not even good! =(
