I pay sales tax to the state on in state sales I have for my business. Where do I show this expense on my schedule C?
Where do I report sales tax on my schedule c?
If you are talking about the sales tax you charge your customers, you cannot deduct it. It was never your money.
You should be recording your sales as what you charged the customer. Sales tax is calculated on the sales price.
Example: Sales of $100 x 5% sales tax = $5.00 sales tax.
You report Sales of $100.00.
Sales tax payable (a Liability) of $5.00
If you are talking about the sales tax you pay to buy your supplies and other items, you add it to the cost of the items you purchased.
Reply:You can show it in Sch C Taxes and licenses. Or, if you are selling products, you can report it as a cost of goods sold. Describing the item is more important than the placement of it on Sch C
