What happens if you get pregnant too soon after a c-section?

I was told by my doc to wait at least 12 months before getting pregnant again following my c-section. We are using protection but what would happen if by accident I got pregnant before that? Is there a risk that the sutures would rapture inside, or any other risk?

What happens if you get pregnant too soon after a c-section?
Regardless of a c-section or vaginal, everyone should give their bodies that year recovery time. Doctors tell you this because your muscles, hormones, skin, EVERYTHING needs time to heal and get back on a normal cycle after having a child. A c-section takes longer to recover from but I do not think that your doctor was saying specifically because of that you should not have children for a year. My doc told me that too and I delivered naturally. Nothing to worry about. If you did in fact get pregnant, it's usually no big deal. It may be a little more difficult because your body has not fully healed but nature has a way of making things work.
Reply:There is a larger risk for a uterine rupture. The body needs a good amount of time to heel. After a c-section the uterine walls are weakened and the scar tissue is more suseptible(sp) to a rupture especially with a growing baby. But....it doesn't mean that something bad will happen. I got pregnant 2 months after my c-section and my doctor kept telling me it wasn't safe but I went through the pregnancy and everything went smoothly, but I did have to have another c-section due to different reasons.
Reply:You get told to terminate the pregnancy. It is dangerous for you to conceive too close to having a C-section due to wounds healing etc.

BE VERY CAREFUL!!
Reply:He told you to wait 12 months? WOW. We are usually told to try wait at least 3-6 months. I have a friend who was pg about 6 months after her c-section. No problem at all.

Basically the wait is to allow your uterus to heal from the wounds.
Reply:You really need to stop having sex, even protected, because there's still a chance the condom could break. Yea, its still supposed to prevent 90 some percent of pregnancies or some bull hockey like that, but it can still happen.
Reply:My best friend got pregnant with her 3rd baby 5 months after her second c-section. I certainly think the risks are higher with getting pregnant that soon after a c-section, because your body needs time to heal, but she manged her body beautifully, and now her youngest is 11 months old and she's planning for the 4th baby.
Reply:Well, if your doctor told you that there must be a reason. I do know that your body does need time to heal after having a baby. However I had 3 sections in under 2.5 years and I was fine. I got pregnant with my last child when my baby was only 4 months old and I was fine. The only thing I noticed was that at the beginning of my pregnancy I some sharper pains when my uterus started to stretch. I would just take it very easy during this pregnancy.. Good luck and congrats!
