Can my landlord tell me whether i can or cannot install a/c in my apt?

it's not on the rental agreement. 2 other people have a/c's and he's only telling me and the other person that's in the 2nd floor too that we can't have it in the living room, but said it was ok for the one below us to keep his in the living room. is there a law in california that states whether we can make decisions on our own what to put in our apartment?

Can my landlord tell me whether i can or cannot install a/c in my apt?
If the electric bill is being paid by the landlord, he probably doesn't want the extra expense of running a window air conditioner for your apartment. If that is the case, he should have prohibited your having one in the lease.

Since it is not prohibited in the lease, I don't see why you cannot have one. Especially since others in your building do.

Good luck with your situation.
Reply:If it's not in your rental agreement you may have some ground to stand on. Tell him you'll be contacting a lawyer to see if he can prohibit it. Maybe that will scare him into letting you do it.
Reply:If it's not in the fine print and he didn't say you couldn't do it then there should be no problem
Reply:he is probably worried about water damage or stress to his investment property, offer to put a drain hose on it that will reach to the ground and a brace that will not mark his siding, and he may be more willing to allow them. always try to find a way to solve a problem that works for the both of you and you may get what you want, do not go off hot headed just try to walk away till you can come up with a better solution and offer it. also if it is in a window facing the front of the property, he may be worried about how tacky it will look to prospective renters offer another window.
Reply:ask your landlord again, if it doesn't work contact the department of housing.
