I noticed that my central A/C was hardly blowing out any air. I went outside to check if the condenser was running. It was running but the coolant line was iced up. I immediately shut down the unit.
What does it mean when the coolant line to the A/C condenser is iced up?
Try this link. I think that you need freon or puron, but this will help you to troubleshoot the problem and decide whether or not you need to call a professional. http://www.masterplumber.net/airconditio...
Reply:I actually learned about that yesterday my fridge was working but no cold air blowing in it and the repair man said it was because the lines were iced up blocking the free flow of what ever liquid he said was in the lines, making the fridge run but not cool.. As far as I became aware there is a coil that warms up to deice the lines, if it applies to your A/C that coil might not be working allowing the lines to freeze up reducing the amount of cold air blowing. Shouldn't be expensive we where covered by the warranty but the repair man said it would only been his fee $80 dollars and the $12 dollar part. Considering the lines could of burst and further damage losing about $300 dollars worth of food in the fridge, I think is a bargain. anyways is up to you but if I were you call around and see if you can get a free estimate..
Reply:There are two things that cause an a/c unit to ice up. Low on freon, or restricted air flow. Restricted air flow is usually caused by a dirty filter. I would check that first since it's the cheepest. I would also check the blower compartment to make sure nothing has been sucked into the system and blocking the air flow. If everything is clear i'm afraid your going to have to call a service man to find out why the system leaked down in the first place, and get the system recharged. GOOD LUCK
Reply:1st check you're filters if dirty/clogged change them and run just the fan for half the day because more than likely you're evap coil is frozen up. after that turn it back on cool and put your hand over the cond coil if the air coming out seems cool. youre low on freon.however it sounds like it's gonna be low on freon
Reply:the system either needs re-gassing, or you may have a leak, but it could be that the condenser is how shall i say it knackered
Reply:so ur saying it was iced up yourself but you don't understand why your saying it? did it tell you that on a screen or something? it must have gotten cold enough to produce ice in the lines that it has prevented air from going threw i'm guessing.
Reply:you need a different coolant. One that can withstand freezing temperatures
Reply:Sounds like it the system needs to be recharged. It may have a leak.
