How long should drainage from a C-Section incision last?

My wife's c-section incision opened up a few days ago. We've been to the doctor and he said that everything looked good (no infection or anything). She is just wondering how long that the drainage can last. It does look like the hole is healing up alright. The drainage is just a clear liquid with a little bit of blood mixed in, but it's just aggrivating that it's a continual oozing. Thanks in advance for the help.

I had the same thing, only mine didn't open up--I had fluid that built up behind the incision, and I had to go have it reopened so they could drain it (over 12 ounces--yeeks!).

The opening should get a little bit smaller with each day, but if it looks like the area behind it is getting puffy, call the doctor. It might be filling up with fluid again. It will probably take a week or so to close on its own.

Congratulations on the baby!
Reply:When that happened to me, I had to pack it with this gauze that looked like shoestring. It healed up in about 2 weeks and it did end up getting infected. It oozed for about a week, then with the gauze I couldn't really tell. If it is still oozing by midweek, I would call the doc. Keep changing the bandage or clean it often, or it could get infected.
