How comon is a C-section in the average housecat? AND what are *your* reasons to alter a pet?

My husband adamantly feels it is cruel to surgically remove the reproductive organs of a pet. I adamently feel it is cruel *not* to. I have told him the normal reasons. The reason I have in mind is to tell him that So-Many house-cats and stry-cats need to have C-sections, or will a)die b)produce only still born kittens or c)both.

I have an altered male cat and am we are thinking of adopting another animal. I really want to have the animal altered and he does not. I need some more reasons to pass on to him.

How comon is a C-section in the average housecat? AND what are *your* reasons to alter a pet?
...fixing them makes them healthier and have a longer life :)
Reply:Unless you want to just lie, the C-section thing won't fly. It is just not very common. Tell your husband that unaltered male cats tend to roam in search of females and often get lost or killed (has happened to me). Also they are less likely to spray your home and get certain types of cancer. If you are speaking of a female cat, spaying prevents your cat from going into heat thus attraction lots of male cats to your home. They'll sit outside all night and fight. Your cat could catch diseases from them if left out and could be hurt in a fight. Her chances of cancer are lesser as well if she gets neutered.--- And you won't have to deal with her incessant meowing and rubbing when she is in heat.

Almost all animals are less aggrssive and less likely to get hurt or wander if fixed.
Reply:There's no reason to lie to anyone about things like this, especially your husband. I've never heard it referred to as giving your cat a c-section, but spaying/neutering is very common and necessary to the control of overpopulation. As far as having a c-section for a cat to give birth, that's complete bunk. Cats are perfectly capable of giving birth to live kittens and have been doing so for centuries. This is fairly obvious. What it does control is female cats giving birth to litters without your control of it (does your husband want to deal with a houseful of cats?) and males spraying all over the place (does he want to deal with the smell of that?!)

You should have your husband go with you to the animal shelter to pick out a new pet. They require spaying/neutering with their adoptions in order to keep the population under control. They will also be better able to explain the reasons to him and probably have literature available for him to look through as well.
Reply:Most cats DO NOT have C-sections. Its rather rare in fact. But the better reason for altering your cat is because there are so many cats and dogs in shelters because they haven't been altered!! I love babies of any kind and so do alot of other people but..... people have to remember they grow up and then they have babies and its just an endless cycle. But seriously you need to alter your cats. You can let your husband know that because there are so many cats out there that hundreds are getting "put to sleep" due to over crowding.

The cats are also healthier when fixed and don't run off nearly has often.

I hope this helps
Reply:This really isn't an answer, but if you adopt from a shelter, usually the animal will already be "fixed". So only adopt and your hubby will have no choice. :)
