An organic, preservative-free juice may lose beneficial Vitamin C content when exposed to light, air, and/or high temperatures. What type of packaging could be used to minimize exposure to the elements and maintain the vitamin content of the juice, while also minimizing the impact on the environment?
HELP!!! I'm a 11th grade student who's been hitting her head repeatedly over this topic. I have no clue where to start or which direction to go in. Believe me, ANYTHING would help.
How do I package a juice with no preservatives and not lose Vitamin C content?
Re-use one of your bottled water containers (Aquafina, etc).
After you've emptied it of water, you can refill it with juice. Fill it almost to the top; then place the cap on but do not tighten it.
Next, squeeze the bottle slightly so that the juice rises to the top of the neck of the bottle; then tighten the cap.
You've just evacuated all the air out of the bottle. It will retain most of it's vitamin content, as there is no air to cause oxidation.
You can reuse the bottle several times. After a few uses, replace the bottle with a more recent one. The caps begin to loose their air-tightness after several uses, so you want to save an empty water bottle once in a while to act as a replacement.
